TESTIMONIALS
What do you do when your fourteen year old adopted son steals and wrecks your car? What do you do when every therapist covered by insurance in your area has given up? You try something new. We tried metronome therapy for our son. It helped so much. Lisa Marie at Precision Brain Training is amazing. Our son received services for 18 months. During that time, he stayed in school and earned superior grades. He slept better. He also agreed to go - even on a Saturday morning! The metronome system allowed our son to feel successful and he was never "talked at" which is so different from traditional therapeutic models. Due to a history of trauma, I am convinced that the metronome therapy helped retrain his brain. As parents, we are grateful.-SB
Centers is a private, non-profit agency that has contracted with the state to provide services to families who have adopted children from the Texas foster care system here in Region 8 since 2012. Every adopted child experiences the long-term effects of complex developmental trauma, which manifests in multiple struggles, and families are very often overwhelmed when trying to access appropriate resources to help their child heal from trauma. Often traditional therapies are not effective, and non-traditional interventions are not covered by Medicaid or the family's private insurance. Thanks to resources such as Interactive Metronome, Post Adoption services has been able to support families by providing much needed support and interventions.
Lisamarie Ray provides Interactive Metronome Therapy, a science-based movement program which has demonstrated effectiveness with wounded warriors to treat PTS and past trauma. This brain training program helps with timing, attention, impulse control and regulation, as well as aggressive behavior, which so many of our adopted children struggle with. Multiple Post Adopt families have utilized this service over the past several years with positive results.
In addition, Lisamarie has extensive experience working with foster and adoptive families, and provides parent training, geared toward individual family needs. I have had families report that the parents have benefitted more from two weeks of parent training with Lisamarie, than through two years of counseling. Staff understand relational neuroscience and how trauma affects the brain, and are able to equip parents with additional tools and sensory strategies for their parenting toolbox, supporting both parent and child.
The services they provide have helped so many adoptive families through Centers, and we hope to continue to utilize them in the future.-DW
During the 4th and 5th grades, a friend recommended I listen to a podcast about parenting after childhood trauma. We started learning about dysregulation and the neuroscience of the brain. We began meeting with Lisa Marie Ray, Z participated in counseling and metronome therapy, and we participated in parenting training and counseling. It changed our lives! It turned out that our parenting needed a massive overhaul to be able to parent Z effectively. We had to begin working on not becoming dysregulated when Z was dysregulated. We had to work on Z’s felt-safety with us. Metronome therapy synchronized her brain, which helped with regulation, thinking, and coordination.
Currently, the girls are in 12th and 8th grades, and we are doing well. There are still moments of confusing behavior and dysregulation, but compared to a few years ago, it's beautiful.
The two things, teaching the parent about childhood trauma and using metronome therapy, literally saved our family. I recommend both of these things to almost every family I meet that is struggling with an out-of-control, frustrated child and parents, especially if they are an adoptive family.- AS
